]]>Opportunity Village understands that some families still require support and we will be making accommodations to serve clients and families in-home utilizing our current Direct Care staff. Other OV staff members will be working remotely from home.
While our facilities may close, we will continue to serve our clients wherever we are needed while closely adhering to CDC guidelines.
If you are a client, parent or guardian and require home care or have any questions, reach out to your Case Manager or our Family Advocate, Ashley Cooper (702) 262-1514.
As a community organization, we have the honor and responsibility to care for people. The OV Way dictates we make meaningful connections and are vigilant in service. When there is a public health concern, we must be serious in our response for the people we serve and our team members.
Every employee is important and so is your health. We are working diligently to keep the people in our spaces safe. We increased cleaning and disinfecting practices, decreased tours, and decreased non-essential volunteer groups. We are continuing to monitor the situation and will remain thoughtful in our response as a community service organization.
Reports about the Coronavirus COVID-19 detail an increased risk to people with underlying medical conditions, the very young, and elderly. While these reports can be alarming, it is recommended we remain calm and incorporate best practices into everyday activities. Every employee is encouraged to remain aware, practice hygiene, and coach the people we serve to do the same.
Here are some of the CDC’s recommendations:
– Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
– Stay home when you are sick.
– Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
– Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
– Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing. If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
If you are sick, please inform your supervisor and seek medical attention. If you are not ill, we need you at work. The people we serve are counting on us to care for them and enhance their quality of life. Without you, we are unable to ensure the care and safety of people who have the most significant needs in our community. If you have questions, please reach out to your supervisor. We will continue to communicate as the situation changes.
Thank you for all you do to safeguard and care for people.
Bob Brown, President & CEO
Opportunity Village
As Christopher R. continues to develop a strong relationship with direct care staff they have learned more and more about his interests over the past few months. Now Christopher R., a participant in our Enable space, is actively taking part in programs such as drumming and art. When he engages in drumming, he will get the drum himself, utilizing a towel in order to help manage the volume. Christopher makes progress every day and now selects the towel without prompting and carefully places it on the face of the drum prior to impact. In art, Christopher will use different mediums, painting and colored pencils are his favorites, and remains seated for 15-20 minutes to engage in this activity. Great job Christopher!
]]>Given the occurrences of community spread of Coronavirus (COVID- 19, we believe it is our responsibility to take steps that help to inhibit, rather than accelerate, the spread of the virus. One such step is to reconsider and reduce the number of upcoming events that bring together, in close proximity, large numbers of attendees, particularly those who are medically fragile or vulnerable to infection.
This was not an easy call to make. The OV Family Picnic is very important to us. However, the health and safety of our OV Family remains our highest priority.
The OV Family Picnic will now be rescheduled for September 26th, 2020. We will share additional details in the coming months. In the meantime, thank you all for your patience and understanding.
We look forward to seeing you in September!

As part of Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, we created a series of videos of clients answering some questions.
In these videos we hope that viewers will learn that we are more alike than different.
